Schools are expected to remain open in all but the most extreme circumstances. However, on rare occasions the weather can be so severe that getting to and from school becomes hazardous and given that many of our pupils are brought to school on transport taxis, the school needs to be sure that the taxis will run and that journeys are safe.

In the event of bad weather, the school will remain open whenever possible. Parents are asked to make every effort to ensure their child attends school and is dressed appropriately in uniform with suitable footwear and outer wear.

What Parents/Carers Can Do

In the event of bad weather, we encourage parent’s/carers to check to see if the school is open before travelling to the site. There are a number of ways to confirm whether the school is open or closed.
  • As soon as a decision is made a message will be placed on the website. The default position is that the school is open. No closure message on our website means that we intend to open and all students will be expected to attend.
  • A message will be sent out via Schoolcomms and Everbridge. The link to sign up is https://member.everbridge.net/index/892807736725489#/login
  • Information will be sent to the Hertfordshire County Council website www.hertfordshire.org.uk
  • Listen to the radio. Three counties radio (90.4FM/103.8FM), Heart 101.7 and Bob FM 106.7 to 106.9
  • A notice will be put up on the school gate.

If the school is closed, we will try and make a decision as early as possible, and will intend to re-open as soon as we can.

If the school does open, but extreme weather develops during the day, we will aim to remain open until the end of the normal school day. However, this is not always possible when roads are becoming treacherous. If the school decides to send pupils home early then the school will notify all parents to ensure that there is an adult at home to receive their child. No child will be sent home early on transport if this has not been substantiated.

Should any parent/carer wish to make any alternative arrangements for their child they should put these in writing to the Head of School.
